Weather & seasons

Penang is tropical and warm all year (high twenties to low thirties Celsius), so there’s no bad time so much as wetter and drier spells. The months around December to April are generally the most reliable for beach days, while the September–November inter-monsoon period sees more afternoon downpours and the occasional choppier sea. Even in the wetter months, rain often comes in short, heavy bursts rather than all-day greyness.

A perfect 3-day itinerary

Day 1 — Settle in & the night market

Arrive, check in and spend the afternoon on the beach. As the sun sets, walk the night market, grazing on satay and char kway teow, then finish with a drink at a beach bar.

Day 2 — Sea & sky

Morning water sports — parasailing or a jet-ski — then a long lunch of beachfront seafood. Afternoon at leisure by the pool or the sand; sunset on the beach is non-negotiable.

Day 3 — Into the hills

Head inland to Entopia butterfly farm and the Tropical Spice Garden, or give the family a big day at ESCAPE. Back for a final swim, then dinner with a view.

Got more time? Add a day or two in George Town for heritage streets and Penang’s legendary hawker food — it’s only 25–40 minutes away.
